Private medical groups to open jab sites in KZN

Discovery has confirmed it plans to open three vaccination centres in KwaZulu-Natal next month.

Chief Commercial Officer at Discovery Health, Ronald Whelan says they have tried to make sure that the centres are accessible to all Discovery members. 


He says they've also partnered with some Virgin Active gyms.


Whelan says over 9 000 vaccinations have been done at their first site in Sandton.

"We have three sites lined up for KwaZulu-Natal - primarily out of the Virgin Active locations. But we are actively looking for a few additional sites in KwaZulu-Natal - ideally a larger site.


"Primary system for registration is the National Department of Health Electronic Vaccination Data System. You need to register on the system to generate a unique token for your vaccination.


Mediclinic says it's have selected the first 10 facilities to support the vaccine roll-out. One of them is the Mediclinic in Pietermaritzburg.


Mediclinic Southern Africa’s Chief Clinical Officer, Gerrit de Villiers says ultimately, they want to open some 42 facilities.

He says they are in the final process of meeting all the requirements.


De Villiers says the number of facilities will increase as more vaccines come in.


Clicks says it's started vaccinating those over 60 at 51 pharmacies nationwide. It's urged all citizens to register before making their way to the stores. 


Clicks has stressed walk-ins won't be accepted.
