Work to repair a burst pipe, which supplies water to Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hopsital, has begun.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda on Wednesday inspected the site on a bridge along Griffiths Mxenge Highway.

He says they're re-routing the pipe which has embedded in the bridge.

"If we can dig deeper than what we are doing here is going to affect the structure of the bridge, hence we are not going to divert the pipe so that it doesn't go through the bridge."

He says they're looking for a temporary solution to supply water to the hospital.

"In the meantime, they are fixing this pipe so that we start supplying water directly to the hospital and we are looking at other alternative ways of doing that and that intervention may take three days."
