Pretoria zoo welcomes 2 chimpanzees from Israel

Two Israeli chimpanzees are gaining familiarly with their new environment at a Pretoria zoo following their arrival yesterday.

Yesterday, two chimpanzees arrived at the Pretoria Zoo - named Abshalom and Moti - arrived at OR Tambo airport from a zoo in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem respectively yesterday. 


The homonids are the first to inhabit the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa in three years. 


Reacting to the arrival, the Israeli deputy ambassador to South Africa Michael Freeman says this strengthens the relationship between the zoo community in both countries - rhinos from South Africa had been previously sent to the middle eastern country. 


The pair - who reportedly only understand Hebrew - are yet to be ready to be viewed by the public.
