Pretoria school parents oppose ‘skinny pants’
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Gauteng Education Department says the parents of pupils demanding the inclusion of skinny pants in the school uniform have rejected the request.

Last week pupils at Hoërskool Pretoria Wes boycotted classes demanding to wear more fitted pants. They will now have to continue wearing the common grey uniform pants following a vote by parents yesterday.
The department's spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says parents voted against the proposed amendments to the school's code of conduct that would have allowed learners to wear skinny pants.
"We cannot allow a situation whereby ill-discipline prevail in our schooling environments. The day we allow this - we as an education sector, will be doomed. We therefore concur with parents," says Mabona
"Teaching and learning continues unhindered at the school and as such we plead with learners not to disrupt schooling. As parents we must always take charge of our children's behaviour and empower educators to instil the necessary discipline to learners," says Mabona.
