Presidency recalls Gordhan, Jonas from international roadshow

President Jacob Zuma has instructed Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebisi Jonas, to cancel the international investment promotion roadshow to the United Kingdom and the United States and return to South Africa immediately.

There's renewed speculation a Cabinet reshuffle is imminent. 

Gordhan and Jonas are currently in London where they planned on meeting with international credit ratings agencies and investors, before heading to the United States.

The Federation of Unions of South Africa is part of the investors' roadshow. The federation's Dennis George is scheduled to fly out tonight join the roadshow.

"This is something we do annually. The minister and his officials and the social partners go and brief these investors. So, why now come and say this thing has not been approved, because the approval of these things are done as an administrative function and not as a political decision," he said.

The statement, as issued by the Presidency, reads as follows: 

President Jacob Zuma has instructed the Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan and Deputy Minister Mcebisi Jonas to cancel the international investment promotion roadshow to the United Kingdom and the United States and return to South Africa immediately.
