Preparing for release of 2018 Matric exam results

Try to remain calm, and don't second guess your performance - that's the advice from clinical psychologist, Bradley R. Daniels to matric pupils who await the release of their 2018 final exam results.

"There is not much that can be changed at this particular point in time. That takes a large part of the anxiety out. Stay mindful - in waiting for the results to be published then decide to take action thereafter," Daniels said.

The Independent Examinations Board's results will be released on Thursday, 3 January 2019. While the National Senior Certificate exam results will be made available on Friday, 4 January 2019.

Daniels says should the results not be in line with the requirements for further studies in the desired field, there are options to rewrite.

"Some pupils may not do as well in Mathematics. If they want to pursue a career in Engineering - they might have to improve their results. The best recommendation we can give to learners and their families is to work with exactly what has happened. Matric Exams always seem so final and that's why I advocate that we move away from the exam culture and move towards an assessment culture.”

"Assessments are there to give us feedback and tell us how we are doing - not to define us. Yes, it's an important assessment and it's important to do well enough to achieve the goals we want; however, there's always an opportunity to correct anything that did not go according to plan," he said.
