Prasa takes steps to recoup millions from former executive

Passenger Rail Agency has started legal proceedings against its former Executive Manager for Engineering Services who lied about his qualifications.
Prasa says it has issued a summons against Daniel Mtimkulu in a bid to get back R20-million they say he unduly received in remuneration and other expenses while employed at the agency.
The state-owned entity also wants the South Gauteng High Court to set aside the R4.8 billion locomotives contract between Prasa and Swifambo Rail Leasing.
In an affidavit, board chairperson Popo Molefe says Swifambo was formed only a few months ago for the mere purpose of the tender to provide locomotives.
The document also details alleged tender rigging in favour of Swifambo and its Spanish joint-venture partner.
Spokesperson Victor Dlamini says they are acting on the reports of the Public Protector and the Auditor-General that highlighted irregularities.
"Prasa indicated that it would engage the service of forensic investigators. On the basis of our investigations, we believe that we have enough information to launch these actions.
"So, it really is a case of acting on the basis of the findings of an investigation," he says.
