Prasa suspends rail operations at KwaMashu's Thembelihle Station

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa says it has suspended train operations at the Thembelihle Station in KwaMashu, north of Durban for the day.

Protesting residents of KwaMashu Hostel disrupted train services there this morning.

It is understood they are upset about electricity and other service delivery issues.

Prasa spokeperson Zama Nomnganga says commuters travelling from KwaMashu towards Durban will need to find other means of transport.

"What they did in the morning was uncalled for because their protest is over services from the municipality," said Nomnganga.

"What they did was obstruct the running of train services, meaning the trains could not reach and pass Thembelihle."

Nomnganga says trains have been turning around at the Duffs Road.

"We cannot risk exposing our commuters to such circumstances."


KwaMashu SAPS is investigating a case of public violence.
