Prasa 'ghost workers' probe step in right direction, says Satawu
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) says it was devastating to learn that government's wasted millions paying ghost employees.

The Transport Ministry and passenger rail agency Prasa carried out an audit and uncovered almost 3 000 ghost workers in August.
The department said this week that there were additional probes into employees' qualifications and their documentation.
It was able to verify 14 268 workers out of the 17 268 said to be hired at Prasa.

The union's Amanda Tshemese says the report is a step in the right direction for the passenger rail agency.
"Millions of rands were stolen and we want to see arrests taking place soon. We also believe that these host workers were working with employees at Prasa.
"We want those insiders to face the law for corruption and stealing from the public."
