The Transport Department says Leonard Ramatlakane's been fired as chairperson of the passenger rail agency, Prasa.
This follows the entity's investigation into the alleged misuse of one of its properties in Cape Town by the chair without the proper processes being followed.
Reports have been swirling about his family's alleged use of the luxury property, meant for top Prasa execs.
Meanwhile, the department's Collen Msibi says Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga's expressed her appreciation to the chair for his leadership.

He says during his time in office, Ramatlakane recovered around 13 rail lines.
"He exceeded the target of 10 rail lines that were initially earmarked by Prasa for recovery.
"Minister Chikunga further said that it was under his watch Prasa was able to restore a sizeable number of Prasa rail services in various metros in the country which have ensured that Prasa reclaims its status as a mass mover of commuters in the republic."
Msibi says the department's committed to clean administration and governance across its entities.
