PPEs worth millions for KZN schools 'disappear'
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
KwaZulu-Natal Education is investigating the disappearance of personal protective equipment (PPEs) – meant for schools in Umlazi, Pinetown and Zululand.
The department says it received reports that the PPEs went missing en route to circuit offices and schools.
Spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi says this is going to cause more delays as schools won't be able to reopen without them.
He says the missing PPEs cost the department millions.
Mahlambi's appealed to anyone with information to go to the police.
"If they are not recovered, it means that the department will have to spend more millions securing those PPEs for those particular schools so that they will be in a position to then open."
"We have already spent millions," says Mahlambi.

"The disappearance of these PPEs makes the preparations for the reopening of schools an elusive goal."
"The MEC has since directed the HoD to urgently institute an investigation on the disappearance of these PPEs."
Schools are expected to reopen on Monday, the 8th of June for Grades 7 and 12.
