Power restored, KwaDukuza promises to resolve staff payment issues
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
The KwaDukuza Municipality says electricity issues that sparked protest action there this week have been resolved.
Areas including Mathenjwa, Ntshawini, Groutville, Shakaville and Thembeni were without power earlier this week.
The municipality says its electricity department was functioning on skeleton staff this past weekend, leading to the power problems.
Spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize says they've been having issues with the payment of staff for weekend work.
"With the issues of workers and overtime - we realise that there was a miscommunication with council decisions. We have agreed with workers from the electricity department is that in our cost curtailment measures - we will be able to sit down with them and discuss issues that they brought up regarding the hours that they work," he said.
