In a statement issued yesterday, SAPO announced that Barnes had tendered his resignation letter on Wednesday.

Barnes had cited differences on the strategy for the structure, particularly Postbank.

Charles Nwaila, SAPO board spokesperson, says they are confident interim group CEO Lindiwe Kwele, who currently serves as COO, will be able to take over the drivers seat successfully.

"We are confident that we have a 2030 strategy and the post office is stabile now. Kwele has been working under the CEO, we have observed her over the years and we are confident services will not be disrupted."
