Possible name change for Ladysmith gets mixed reaction
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Residents in Ladysmith, in northern KZN, have taken part in a consultation and voting process for the renaming of their town.

The KZN Arts and Culture Department initiative took place throughout this past week.
The city currently has two names Ladysmith and Mnambithi.
This resident says he voted for the city's native name.
"Mnambithi is the name the whole of South Africa respects us with, so I thought it was important for the community to fight for that name and partake in the voting process."

Some residents believe changing the city's name could take away its history. " Ladysmith has such a huge history behind it, there were huge battlefields around called Ladysmith and now they want to change it."
While some feel efforts should rather be directed into service delivery issues. " I don't understand why they want to change the name, there are so many other things they need to do in Ladysmith like fix the roads and water and the sewerage."
