He succeeds Bheki Cele.

Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says SAPS members are underpaid, considering the dangers involved in their jobs.

He says some police officers are ambushed when conducting patrols, posing a risk to their livelihood.

"Members have not been getting salary increases since 2020 in the public service. The cost of living has been quite challenging for members within the public service, and the daily allowance is standing at R700.

"It's supposed to be standing at least R1,500, so those are some of the things we are bringing up to the minister."
