Popcru supports Phiyega in Marikana case
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
Police union, Popcru says it will challenge any findings against National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega in relation to Marikana in 2012.
The National Commissioner last week submitted her reasons to President Jacob Zuma as to why she should not be suspended pending an inquiry into her fitness to hold office.
Popcru feels some people have been gunning for her. It has also condemned attacks on her gender and race.
The union's Richard Mamabolo says they support the commissioner.
"Everything that has been happening that is negative within the SAPS has been directed at her as an individual. So, we feel that if it's with regards to Marikana that her ability to lead is questioned, we'll not accept that," he said.
It is understood the South African Policing Union is not backing Phiyega.
