Poor sanitation behind M19 protest, says local councillor
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A local councillor has pointed to poor sanitation and toilet facilities as the reason for this morning's traffic-stopping protests on the M19.

Both sides of the busy route linking Durban and Pinetown were blocked with burning tyres.
Reports also came through of demonstrators stoning vehicles.
eThekwini metro police said while traffic was allowed to pass, there was some congestion on the Durban side.
Ward 25 councillor Themba Mkhize said he had been in contact with residents from the Silver Willow Informal Settlement in Springfield.

"They do have toilets, but all are jammed, so now the Speaker sent us a message yesterday where we wrote all the places there are issues with the toilet, so now I am going to send a list of mine to the speaker’s office. I believe this time something will happen."
Mhkize said he'd be visiting the residents on Monday.
Reports came through earlier about protest action affecting traffic in the vicinity of Britannia Hotel, Shallcross and Malvern.
