Pongola crash: Truck driver abandons bid for bail

The driver of the truck that collided with a bakkie carrying schoolchildren in Pongola has abandoned his bid for bail.

Twenty people were killed in the N2 crash over a week ago.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sibusiso Siyaya made his second appearance in the Pongola Magistrate's Court on Monday.
KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says he faces 20 counts of culpable homicide.
"The matter was remanded to 25 October 2022 for further investigations."

Eighteen of the victims were primary school children aged between five and 12.
A teacher and the bakkie driver were also killed.
Siyaya handed himself over to police a day after the tragic accident.
Last week, the Transport Minister revealed that the accident probe had found the truck driver had overtaken several vehicles and drove in the oncoming traffic lane for over a kilometre.
The funeral of some of the victims was held at the Waterbus Sports Ground in Pongola over the weekend.
