Some opposition parties in eThekwini have expressed differing views regarding the government's proposals to address the persistent problems facing the city.

During his Opening of Parliament Address on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced plans to restore the metro to its former glory.
They include a presidential task team that will operate within the city's ranks.

"As the DA, we welcome any intervention from the national and provincial governments to assist with rebuilding what was once a very beautiful city of eThekwini," says DA eThekwini Caucus Leader Thabani Mthethwa.
"The problem we have, which we have raised before, is that this team has been announced, but we have not, as councillors, seen them. It would be proper if they were to come and meet us as councillors so that we can share notes to say this is what needs to be fixed in eThekwini."
ActionSA leader in KZN Zwakele Mcwango feels that only Section 139 B of the Constitution will solve eThekwini’s woes.

"It may be a waste of resources considering the crisis eThekwini is in at the moment. The government will also intervene; there is nothing new. What we need is an administration.
"No one is even briefing us as councillors in terms of these new interventions. It is very strange that we hear it from the president's speech."
