Political analyst weighs in on Mapisa-Nqakula matter

A political analyst has weighed in on corruption allegations levelled against National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

The NPA's Investigating Directorate carried out a raid at her home this week after she was accused of receiving more than R2 million from a contractor during her tenure as the defence minister.
On Thursday, the speaker announced she would take special leave to protect Parliament's integrity.

On Friday, Mapisa-Nqakula applied for an urgent court interdict at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to block her arrest.
"Mapisa-Nqakula could be busy in talks with the ANC so that whatever happens in the near future it should be coming from both to avoid to contradict each other," says Dr Levy Ndou.
"It could just be to save her face from parliament and also to make the statement known from the ANC that whatever decision that she makes she is in the hands of the law. In South Africa all citizens are equal before the law."
