Political analyst questions DA's approach to race
Updated | By Andrew Robertson
Political analyst, Dr Imraan Buccus believes there should be concern over the direction the DA's policy is going.
He thinks there's legitimacy in the argument that right-leaning elements may capture the party.
Buccus's comments follow yesterday's election of John Steenhuisen as Federal Leader - with 80 percent of the votes.
He says he wasn't surprised, "Most people watching what is happening with the Democratic Alliance and the politics around it wouldn't have expected it."
"Many have been saying that would seem there are two camps in the DA and the one camp is a camp of Helen Zille and Steenhuisen and others," he added.

Buccus believes the DA will struggle to attract young black voters.
"We have a black middle-class explosion, people are looking for to do away with corruption, to do away with corruption that comes from the ANC but is also looking aggressive politics," he said.
The one that will appeal to the black middle class to make up the explosion. And the current DA and it's approach to race and transformation, I doubt that might be attractive to millions of young voters.
Last month ahead of the congress, Steenhuisen wrote to delegates asking them to support the party’s resolution to embrace non-racialism and do away with race.
