The police has been without an executive director since the decision not the renew the contract of Robert McBride more than a year ago.

Ntlatseng has over 20 years' experience in the Gauteng government, specialising in community development, policing and the criminal justice system.

Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police approved her nomination by Police Minister Bheki Cele on Wednesday.

However, the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Freedom Front Plus objected to the appointment due to the time elapsed, which is in contravention with the IPID Act and a pending Supreme Court of Appeal ruling involving McBride.

After consulting with parliamentary legal services, the committee's chairperson Tina Joemat-Petterson allowed the process of appointing Ntlatseng to go head.

Joemat-Petterson said the IPID Act needs to be completely amended to allow for a possible delay appointing ahead.

"The committee needs a comprehensive report on why we had the delay. Honourable members and honourable minister, we expect the comprehensive report for the reason for the delay to be given to us in our next meeting. So that we have a clear understanding of why there was a breach of the Act."
