IPID probes two cases of alleged fatal police brutality in KZN

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) confirms two of the 11 cases of civilian deaths allegedly at the hands of police since lockdown began are in KwaZulu-Natal.

Since the COVID-19 national shutdown was implemented, reports and cases of brutality by police and security personnel have increased.

Some have been captured and circulated on social media.
IPID says it's received 588 complaints.
"In KZN we currently have two cases, in Isipingo and Folweni. They are still under investigation," says the directorate's Ndileka Cola.
Cola adds: "The main challenge that we have been experiencing in KZN is lack of cooperation by key witnesses. And as you know, witnesses are very key in the investigation process.
"We are hoping that with time we will get maximum cooperation from key witnesses."
