Police warn of SMS scam
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Police have sent out a warning about a new scam making the rounds.

They say scamsters have been sending smses to people claiming that a case has been opened against them by the SAPS.
When unsuspecting victims respond to the message they are asked to deposit a certain amount of money into a bank account and then steal it.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says there are a lot of bogus syndicates using the South African Police Service's name to trap ordinary South Africans.
"There has been a case that has been reported or people getting smses if they have cases opened against them and as such they would be given a name to contact as well as an account to deposit money.
"We found that there is a lot of such cases hence we are making an appeal to our communities that if they receive such smses they should call or go to their nearest police station," he said.
He says people in various provinces including KZN have fallen victim.
