Police search for family of newborn baby found in Nkandla

Police are working to find the relatives of a newborn baby girl who was found dumped in a rubbish bin in Nkandla.

The baby girl is said to have been placed in a plastic bag.
The infant is receiving medical attention.
The police's Thembeka Mbhele says a case of child abandonment is being investigated.
She is calling on anyone with information to come forward.
"Anyone with knowledge of a relative or the mother of the child should contact the investigating officer, Contable Xoliswa Mdluli, or alternatively the Crime Stop Number or the eShowe police station to ask for assistance relating to this matter."
