Police on scene of community protest in Newlands West
Updated | By Portia Cele
KZN police say they are monitoring the situation along Parlock Drive in Newlands West, north of Durban, where a community protest is underway.
A number of demonstrators have barricaded the road with rubble and burning tyres.
SAPS spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says metro police are currently assisting motorists.
"There is a protest that is taking place in Parlock. The community there is not happy with the company that is working there - with the changing of pipes. They say they were not involved and not employed. The police are there monitoring the situation. They are burning tyres and have blocked the roads," she says.
UPDATE: KZN police say the scene has been cleared, and protesters dispersed.
