Police probing 1 600 Eskom-related cases

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) heard on Tuesday of thousands of cases being investigated at Eskom.

The police's Peter Jacobs, who is the chair of the priority committee on energy security, has been providing an update to the Scopa on the allegations of corruption at the power utility made by former CEO Andre de Ruyter.

"We have got 1 660 Eskom-related cases reported from the 1st of April 2022 till the 30th of April 2023, 143 of these cases are still under investigation, and we have made 103 arrests."

 

Jacobs says they met with Eskom management twice, but no specific details of any crimes were provided by De Ruyter.

De Ruyter left the power utility in February following an explosive television interview in which he made several claims of large-scale corruption at Eskom.
