SA National Parks says three people were killed when the minibus-taxi they were travelling in overturned between Shingwedzi and Mopani in the northern section of the park.

No names have been released since relatives have to be identified first.

SANParks says according to eye witnesses the vehicle went astray and overturned. Two people were declared dead on scene while the other died on the way to hospital.

There were several others who were treated on the scene after sustaining minor injuries and received trauma counselling.

Those who sustained serious injuries were transported to nearest hospitals for further care.

Kruger Park's managing executive Glenn Phillips passed his sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the fatal crash and wished a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries.

Phillips says people should not speculate what happened but should wait until the police conclude with the investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

He says he hopes the family's victims will have access to the final results of the investigation at an appropriate time.

It's still unclear at this moment what caused the crash.
