Police probe following hoax bomb call in Verulam
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Police are trying to identify the man who called private security group, Reaction Unit SA to report that a device had been placed inside a shopping centre on Todd Street, in Verulam.
The bomb scare led to panic among locals in the north of Durban area yesterday.
Officers and local authorities acted quickly and evacuated hundreds of people from the mall and other buildings in the area.
But the police's Thembeka Mbhele says nothing was found when members of their explosives unit conducted a bomb sweep. She says it turned out to be a hoax.
"The parcel that was there was diffused and there was nothing abnormal. There is a bomb scare case opened at the Verulam police station. There's no arrest at the moment because the person remains anonymous," she said.
