Police nab four eMpangeni escapees
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Correctional Services in KZN has confirmed that police have tracked down four of the five prisoners who escaped from the eMpangeni Medium Correctional Centre last month.
They were all arrested in various locations in the town. The department's Thulani Mdluli says one prisoner died after suffering a gun shot wound.
"We are still in search of the remaining suspect, Siyabonga Khumalo. One suspect tried to escape the scene and police were chasing after him. Apparently, he met a security guard and tried to demand a firearm from the security guard. The security guard retaliated with fire," he says.
