Police monitor Shallcross protest, south of Durban
Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
The situation remains tense but calm in Shallcross, near Chatsworth south of Durban this morning after destructive protests along Link Road yesterday.

The area's CPF says protests in the area were allegedly sparked by the death of a child from the Bottlebrush Settlement.
"Across the road there is a guy who repairs and builds boats, they got all of the boats out of the property and set them alight," said the CPF's Mahendra Lillkan.
Lillkan says they were told by police that a child, believed to be about 3 or 4-years-old, was knocked over by a car while trying to cross the road.
Lillkan says officers are still monitoring the situation, saying Link Road remains closed to traffic.
"Link Road was blocked, right up until midnight we were there and it was completely closed off," he said.
