A province-wide intelligence-driven police operation has netted 18 of the most wanted suspects in the province in a space of 24 hours.
The crime blitz began on Friday night and ended yesterday morning - with officers in Maphumulo apprehending three suspects they had been after for crimes including murder, hijacking and house robberies.
The operation led police to Chesterville and Inanda where a total of 10 suspected car thieves were nabbed - with one also linked to six house and business robberies in areas including Cato Manor, Montclair and Wentworth.
Five other suspects were arrested by the Umlazi Tactical Response on suspicion of being behind a business robbery in Isipingo that took place on Friday.
Some of the suspects are expected to make their first court appearances on Monday.
Meanwhile police have launched a manhunt for three robbers involved in a cash-in-transit heist in Durban.
The armed group is understood to have approached a security guard who had been moving cash to his cash-in-transit vehicle at Glenwood Village on Moore Road yesterday.
Police spokesperson Shooz Magudulela says they took two bags of money.
"An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the Umbilo SAPS have opened a case of armed robbery. An person with information that might lead to arrests is required to contact the Umbilo SAPS," he said.
"The suspects got away in a silver-grey Ford vehicle," Magudulela said.
