Police hunt for ANC member attackers
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
While the ANC's task team set up in KZN to look into whether the killings of its members in the province are at all related to the party's infighting Pietermaritzburg police are yet to find the gunmen who attacked chairperson of the ANC's Machibisa branch this week.
In a separate incident in Newcastle, on the 2nd of July, Thembi Mbongo, a councillor candidate in the municipal elections was gunned down at her home in front of her husband and children.
Mbongo's killing was the second political murder in the area and on Monday the ANC's top brass in KZN held a peace march in Newcastle against the killings.
However on Wednesday Nonhlanhla Khumalo and her family survived a hail of bullets fired onto her house through her kitchen door.
Police say Khumalo was watching TV with her three children when they heard several gunshots coming from outside.
They all ducked for cover. Police say they are investigating cases of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
The motive for the shooting is unknown and no arrests have been made.
