Police hunt for 5 rape suspects underway

It is alleged a group of 5-men promised to accompany the woman to her home after they had some drinks at a local tavern earlier this week.

Police say they instead attacked the young woman, after they had dragged her to a house. She managed to escape the next morning and alerted police.

Spokesperson for the Community Safety Department, Sipho Khumalo, says acting MEC, Sibongiseni Dhlomo, is shocked by the incident which took place at the start of Women’s Month.

"In his view [MEC Dhlomo] this represents the decline in morals and humanity", he said.

"He has strongly condemned this incident and called on anyone who has seen anything or has any information to speak to the police

so that those who are responsible for this are brought to justice as soon as possible", Khumalo said.
