Police have a strong lead in Umlazi murders: Cele
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Police Minister Bheki Cele says officers investigating the recent Umlazi murders have a lead.
Eleven people were killed this week in separate shooting incidents.
Six were killed in U Section on Sunday.
A 14-year-old boy and two women were among the victims.
On Tuesday night, a group of people were celebrating the release of a man from prison at a house in W Section, when gunmen entered and opened fire, killing five.
Cele says in the Sunday shooting, it's been found that some of the victims had a history of criminality and were hiding in Umlazi.
He visited the area on Thursday and was briefed about the investigations.
"The kind of people that were murdered here, they do give us a little bit of trouble because some of them that were profiled don't give is a very clean record.
"So there are innocent people, especially women and the 14-year-old boy that were killed here seems to be very much innocent - wrong place, wrong time. But others would have had some link with some things that are not very good. We have a lead, quite a strong lead here."
