Police hailed after dramatic Higginson Highway shootout

A Bayview motorist has applauded law enforcement teams for their anti-crime efforts following Wednesday's shootout on Higginson Highway, south of Durban.
But Jerome Chetty says more could have been done to reduce the highway gridlock that left many motorists frustrated for hours.
"There was no help because they all were focused on the incident but not focused on the traffic that was there," says Chetty.
He was stuck for two hours in traffic.

"We were getting late because I am a business owner and I couldn't get out of Chatsworth. I had to use other alternatives, so it really affected me."
"I am the sole supporter at my house and for these things to happen and all of a sudden, you get blocked-off and we cannot go see clients. It was also another frustration."

One was wounded and was taken to hospital while officers are hunting for another suspect.
Both bounds of the N2 were closed for hours - including the off-ramp to Higginson on the southbound side.
