Police disperse EFF supporters gathering near Durban H&M store
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Metro and SAPS officers have dispersed a crowd of EFF
members who attempted to protest outside the H&M clothing store in the
Gateway shopping mall.
It's believed the group had been planning to demonstrate outside the clothing retailer which has recently landed itself in hot water over a suspected racial incident.
The brand has been labelled racist, after a controversial advertisement showing a black child wearing a jacket with the words “coolest monkey in the jungle” was posted on their website.
Members were escorted outside the shopping centre earlier.
Metro police spokesperson, Parbhoo Sewpersadh says the crowd has now dispersed.
"We received a report of about 30 EFF supporters that arrived at Gateway. Their intention was to go and disrupt H&M stores. However, the store was closed - they did not enter," he says.
