Police denies reported arrests in kidnapping of Moti brothers
Updated | By Eva Chipa
It's been exactly 10 days since news broke of the alleged kidnapping of brothers Zia (15), Alaan (13), Zayyad (11) and 6-year-old Zidan in Polokwane.
They were abducted while being driven to school.
As the country waits with bated breath for any news regarding the whereabouts and well-being of the brothers, national police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says there is no truth to a recent article claiming the suspects have been arrested.
“An article carried by a media house in the East Rand in Gauteng which suggests there have been arrests in an alleged kidnapping case is misleading.”
This comes after Benoni City Times reported that a local station commander Thabo Mphuthi confirmed that two Benoni residents are being detained at the station in connection with the kidnapping.
“The South African Police Service therefore distances itself from the said article. The SAPS is again requesting that matters which are likely to place the lives of people at risk be handled with utmost sensitivity," says Naidoo.
After the initial confirmation by Limpopo police of an abduction, no new information has been confirmed by either police or the family.
