Police are searching for robbery suspects in Umhlanga

Police have launched a manhunt for five suspects who robbed a Chatsworth man outside an ABSA bank in Umhlanga this afternoon.

Eyewitnesses say the suspects had been wearing balaclavas and carried firearms when they approached the man.

It's understood the suspects robbed the victim of R15000 before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.

He's spoken exclusively to Newswatch:

“"A guy came and pulled my bag, He jacked it and pulled and I held it firmly, pulled it up, I got a shock of my life. He ran to his car and he was gone," he says.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident a security guard at the Pavilion Shopping centre, was robbed also at gunpoint, of thousands of rands at an ATM.

Police Spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says police have established an inquiry to look into the robberies.

 No arrests have yet been made.

KZN Police say they cannot confirm whether the spate of robberies at various malls and banks around KZN are linked to a syndicate.

In the past two weeks there have been at least four robberies at various points across the province.
