PMB teen prison escapee awaiting murder trial caught

KZN police have confirmed they have arrested another prisoner who escaped during an ambush en route to the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court.

Forty-five prisoners were being transported from the city's New Prison to the court when five heavily armed men blocked the road on Wednesday.

It's understood that the men pointed firearms at the police officers before they forced open the rear of the truck letting out 31 prisoners.
By yesterday afternoon, 15 suspects had been re-arrested.
Police spokesperson Jay Naicker said: " This morning, a multi-disciplinary intelligence driven operation lead to the arrest Thubelihle Dlomo (19) - who was previously arrested for murder.
"He was re-arrested at one o clock this morning in the KwaDukuza area. We are still tracking the movements of the remaining 15 awaiting trail prisoners that are still on the run.
"Anyone who may have information on their whereabouts is requested to contact Brigadier Hlongwane 079 684 9114 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111."
