PMB robber handed three life sentences for tuck-shop murders

A Pietermaritzburg man has begun serving three life sentences for robbery and the murder of three people.

Scelo Zuma and his two accomplices robbed a tuck-shop in Copesville and shot dead the 38-year-old owner Arnold Cassim - a year ago. 


23-year-old Rorisang Makoetje was also killed.

SAPS spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says later that day, the robbers travelled to Swapo to shoot a 21-year-old Alina Tsiko who'd witnessed the robbery. 


Police linked Zuma to all three murders, after retrieving his firearm. 


"He was sentenced to three life sentences for three counts of murders, 15 years in jail for robbery, 15 years for unlawful possession of firearm and three years for unlawful possession of ammunition."


Mfundo Sibisi was handed a 25-year sentence for murder and 20-years each for the other two crimes in 2019. 


The third suspect, Zain Khwashube, is due back in court in Pietermaritzburg on Monday.
