It's been a traumatic last couple of days for the elderly residents of a home for the aged in Pietermaritzburg.
The Aryan Benevolent Home has had seven deaths in a matter of days.
It's believed six of them were COVID-19 related.
Chairperson of the home - Dev Naidoo says this week - about half of the remaining 21 residents at the facility tested positive for the virus and have been placed in isolation.
"Since the lockdown, we've had eleven deaths but in the last 12 days, there's been seven deaths, one after the other,” Naidoo said.

“We've got a few of the residents that are not too well but with the efforts of the staff and the Department of Health, we appear to be coping at this juncture."
Naidoo says they've been having a challenging time caring for the elderly - with limited funds and other resources.
"We are still in desperate need of funds, oxygen gauges, and suction apparatus for those that are having problems breathing,” Naidoo said.
