PMB landfill fire could take days to extinguish: Official
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
Msunduzi officials say it will likely take firefighting crews three to four days to completely put out the fire at a landfill in Pietermaritzburg.
Smoke from the blaze at the New England site continued to fill the air in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
Mayor, Mzimkhulu Thebolla says firefighters worked overnight to contain it.
He says it's under control - but is advising residents, especially the elderly and those with chronic diseases, to keep indoors to limit exposure to the smoke.
Thebolla says officials are currently monitoring the air quality to see if there are any toxic substances as a result of the inferno.
