Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Authorities in Msunduzi says 90 percent of the New England landfill fire's been put out.
Officials say it should be completely out before the end of this week.
The blaze started on Monday and the cause has yet to be established.
Smoke from the inferno has been wafting through the City's skies and into people's homes - causing much discomfort and other serious health concerns.
Jacyn Fanner is the Chairperson of Cleland and Meadows Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association. Here in Cleland Meadows, we are upon a hill, however, we do get quite a nasty effect from it.

"Over the last few days, our houses have been pretty much filled with toxic smoke, fine gritty dust all over the surfaces."
Fanner has questioned the Municipality's plan of action.
"Especially, in the times of COVID-19, wherewith respiratory problems as they are now, this is absolutely unacceptable."

"We must be breathing this on a daily basis, we wake up coughing, we got to sleep coughing, it's not acceptable."
"So, we just want to know from the authorities, what is being done to combat this, what is being done to prevent this from happening again and more so, why is the dump still situated where it is, completely surrounded by residential areas."
The Road Traffic Inspectorate says the section of the N3 in Pietermaritzburg that was closed has been reopened.
It was shut this morning after the smog drastically reduced visibility.
