Botha says the four women and two men who passed away had all been travelling in the taxi.
It's unclear what caused the crash.
Additional to that, a man has been critically hurt after being hit by a train near Ulundi in northern KZN.
The man was struck at about 10pm yesterday. The exact circumstances around the incident are unknown.
KZN Emergency Medical Services says the 30-year-old man had to be rescued from beneath the train.
