Plessislaer polling station opens after delay

More locals are joining the queue outside the community hall in Plessislaer Ward 22 in Pietermaritzburg.

There were some hiccups on Monday morning when the voting station failed to open on time.


The presiding officer said that their ballot boxes arrived late due to transport issues.


Some residents say service delivery remains a major challenge.


One man said they want to see more developments in the community.


"I am here to vote, but when I arrived here, I found the doors were closed, there were a few people here. They said they were going to start at 8 o'clock."


In Durban North, voters showed up in a steady stream at Northwood Boys High School.


Presiding officer Wiseman Dlamini said since the start of the weekend, they've been busy with preparations for today's polls and special votes.


"So far, it's good. It’s still the morning everything is fine for now. We started preparations yesterday so everything is going smoothly." 


A woman said she is hoping for municipal changes.


"There's a lot of changes that needs to be done, especially municipality wise and sanity services, that's a big thing."
