Pistorius to be re-sentenced today

Oscar Pistorius is due back in the North Gauteng High Court today for re-sentencing.

A legal expert feels the court will not hand the athlete the full 15-year prescribed minimum sentence for murder.

The original trial judge Thokozile Masipa will preside over today's proceedings.

Pistorius was convicted of the 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on appeal.

The State went to the Supreme Court of Appeal to have the North Gauteng High Court's ruling that he was guilty of culpable homicide set aside.

Reeva's father Barry Steenkamp, is expected to take to the stand in aggravation of sentence.

Sunil Singh from Sunil Singh and Associates believes Pistorius will be sentenced to between seven and 10 years.

''Now what's going to happen is that the defence will now argue for the judge to deviate from that minimum of 15 years to any lesser amount, considering the fact that he's already spent over 10 months in custody.

''Obviously Reeva's father is going to testify in aggravation for the court to insist the minimum sentencing is applied,'' he said.
