Several areas including parts of Ladysmith, Ezakheni and Pieters Industrial, among others, have not had water since the beginning of this week.

The municipality's Jabulani Mkhonza, says residents are demanding to speak to the mayor of the Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

"In order for them to get our attention, so they decided to damage our pipes, therefore the supply of water has been cut," he said.

Mkhonza adds that the pipe should be repaired in the next 48 hours.

He says, it will then take another two days to be fully operational, adding that protestors have also been preventing municipal water tankers from accessing affected areas.

"Whenever they have issues, there are so many channels to express their complaints or issues rather than damaging something which assists the community," he said.
