Pinetown cash heist: Escape caught on camera

A Durban man has been robbed of an undisclosed amount of foreign currency in a bold and brazen heist  - the tail end of which was captured on video.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Jay Naicker, said the man, 51, had been accosted by a group of men armed with rifles and handguns near a car dealership in Pinetown’s Old Main Road.

The obviously well-rehearsed robbers stripped him of his cash and a cellphone before fleeing in a getaway car.

Their escape was captured on film, with the cameraman seen running towards the car as it sped into the street.

“Suspects armed with rifles and pistols fired a shot and drove off in their vehicle. No injuries were sustained by the victim. A case of armed robbery was opened at Pinetown police station but no arrests have been made at this stage,” Naicker said.

In the video, it would appear that the man filming the escape readies a weapon before running after the robbers.
