Pietermaritzburg collapse claims lives of mother, son
Updated | By Portia Cele
A mother and her son have died after the wall of their Pietermaritzburg home came down this morning.
It is believed the 28-year-old woman and the five-year-old boy were sleeping when the brick wall collapsed at the Slangspruit informal settlement.
Authorities are now trying to determine what led to the collapse.
"ER24 was called to the scene by the police search and rescue team and upon arrival, shortly after 8.30am, they found a woman and a boy lying on a bed. Pieces of the wall were found lying around them. Unfortunately, both sustained fatal injuries," ER24's Ineke van Huyssteen said.
Van Huyssteen says they were declared dead by paramedics.
